10. Question:  I need a set of clubs with some custom specs such as a 2 degree upright lie and a 1/2 inch

longer length than standard. Is there an extra charge for these alterations?

Answer:
To change the length of a club 1/2 or 1/4 inch, or to change the size of a grip or to change a lie, these are "alterations" and most of those changes are made at no extra charge to you. Now, manufacturers are even offering high performance shafts from fine shaft manufacturers at NO EXTRA CHARGE. In most cases there is NO extra charge to custom-make your clubs,....call us for an exact price quote if you need custom-made golf clubs. (800-727-5511)

11. Question: I can't hit a 3 iron, and struggle with my 4. Can I buy a set of 5-SW, instead of a 3-PW?

Answer:
Yes. With the advent of hybrid irons to replace the long irons, many golfers are now buying sets of 5-Gap wedge, and the sand wedge. New designs feature hybrid 3 and 4 irons (like ADAMS IDEA woods or the PING Hybrids or the Taylor-Made Rescue models, etc.), which are very easy to hit. The intimidation factor is almost gone with these new hybrid designs. Regarding metalwoods: there is no longer a need to buy a stock set of matched metalwoods as there was 10-20 years ago. Now, you may buy one metalwood (a Driver, for example) without needing to buy a matching set of metalwoods. With the NEW hybrids golf clubs, hitting a 200 yard "iron" shot is as easy as hitting a 7 iron.

3. Question:  Does Dimmock Hill sell closeout golf clubs?

Answer:
Yes, closeouts are available at the end of the season or early in the Spring but they sell fast so they are not available for long. We price the clubs to sell out our supply, as fast as possible. Many of our customers know that, so you must act fast on closeouts! For example, when TITLEIST closed out their 905R Drivers, we priced them at 30% less per club than they were priced before the closeout. We sold out all these closed-out TITLEIST metalwoods in 3 weeks. Don't wait on closeouts.

4. Question:  We are residents of a country in Europe. Can we buy golf clubs from Dimmock Hill Golf

and have them shipped to us?

Answer:
Yes, we accept VISA and MASTERCARD purchases from anywhere outside of the United States, as long as we can verify the card holder's identity. That simply means that if we can successfully verify the information you give us, compared to the information you gave your bank, we can process your order quickly. We also sell quality USED clubs too. The duty on used clubs is small, or non-existent and the prices for USED clubs are quite reasonable. E-mail us at
john@dimmockhill.com for help.

5. Question:  Do you sell components, such as titanium heads, iron heads and/or shafts?

Answer:
We do not sell knock-offs, clones, components, shafts, heads, etc. We sell only golf clubs that have been designed, engineered, manufactured AND assembled by Professional golf club companies such as Ping, Callaway, Titleist, Nike, etc
.

6. Question:  What is the difference between a "pro" set of clubs and a "store" set of clubs?

Answer:
"Store" clubs are made for the average golfer, the golfer who simply needs something to play with. Professional clubs, on the other hand, are high quality clubs made for serious golfers, golfers who want to become better golfers. The more experienced golfers desire to better their game, and because they are more serious players, they want all the newest designs and technology, the best workmanship, the best materials (like titanium instead of titanium alloy), consistent matching within the set, the best engineering and best clubs available. These golfers usually also want the custom-made options that are available only with the pro-line clubs. Store clubs are lower priced simply because stores do not have a market for serious golfers where high quality design and manufacturing are important. Store clubs tend to be price oriented rather than engineering or technology oriented therefore store clubs usually do not have the workmanship and quality of the professional clubs. With our discounts, you can buy a set of professional clubs from Dimmock Hill for about the same price as a set of store clubs.

7. Question:  Suppose I place a custom order for goods and I decide to cancel my order, OR, I place an

order for custom goods and then decide to return the goods (unused). Is there a fee for

canceling or returning a custom order?

Answer:
Orders for custom goods are not cancelable and not returnable once the order is placed. Remember custom orders are made for YOU and are not returnable for refunds or credit. Other returns are subject to a restocking charge. You are responsible for the shipping.

8. Question:   I live in Texas. Do I have to pay sales tax for clubs I order from Dimmock Hill?

Answer:
No. We are not authorized to collect taxes in TEXAS or any other state except our own New York State. Therefore, unless your shipping address is in NY State, your purchase is shipped tax-free to you.

9. Question:  Does "more expensive" mean "better" when it comes to golf clubs?

Answer:
We have visited the Callaway, Ping, Titleist, Cobra and Taylor-Made factories, among others, where golf club and golf ball Research & Development occurs every day. Each of these manufacturer's hire scores of engineers and Golf Pros to test and retest their current designs, conduct experiments using different shafts, experiment with different metallurgy, hit thousands of balls with the latest hitting machines, have tour players test new equipment and new designs, etc., and all of this is done to develop a top quality golf club for the tour players as well as the serious player. The technology is patented and then developed into tools that make these products the best the world has to offer. Sometimes R&D takes years to make top quality equipment for you. The R&D facilities cost these manufacturers millions of dollars every year. SO, generally speaking, in golf, you get what you pay for.  Ping, for example, employs 50 engineers in it's Phoenix, Arizona headquarters who are constantly testing and researching ways to improve the design and quality of their golf clubs. Titleist and Cobra in their plant in Carlsbad, California have a Research and Development facilities that are bigger than many of their competitors manufacturing facilities. Callaway and Taylor-Made have in their employ, many former NASA engineers, whose jobs are to test and design new ways to make the finest golf clubs and golf balls in the world. So, in pro golf equipment, more expensive means highest quality.

12. Question:  I called a competitor before calling you and found their price for a metal driver to be

$50 less than you were quoting for the same club!  In light of your statement that you

have the lowest prices, how do you account for the higher price?

Answer:
Almost every time this happens, the customer has been quoted a closeout price or a price on last year's goods, or sometimes the price quote comparisons are not apples vs apples. The names for golf clubs can also be very confusing. For example:  the name "Big Bertha" has been around for almost 20 years yet there have been 6 or 7 different clubs called Big Bertha.  Ping, one year, had irons called ISI-S model, an ISI-K, an ISI-Nickel, an ISI-Copper, all named ISI. Wilson had the Fat Shaft I, the Fat Shaft II, the Fat Shaft III, etc. Taylor-Made has had the Mid-Rescue, the Dual Rescue, the Dual Rescue TP, and the Rescue Fairway. When someone advertises the Taylor-Made Rescue, which one are they advertising? Or the Callaway Heavenwood….which one are they advertising?  It's very difficult to keep up with these names when you are shopping.

We don't believe that anyone is deliberately trying to cheat you but asking different dealers for quotations on the phone can be tricky. You need to trust the dealer you are calling. We suggest that when you go to a dealer you can trust, chances are they will tell you exactly what is being quoted for you.

We can guarantee this: DIMMOCK HILL GOLF has the lowest prices on a day to day basis of any authorized golf equipment dealership in the United States. Also, we do not "spin" the prices or the goods you buy. Count on us for reliability, honesty and expert knowledge.

13. Question:  What shaft is more popular, steel or graphite?

Answer:
In irons, the makeup is probably 50% steel and 50% graphite. In metalwoods and hybrids, 99% of the orders are for graphite shafts.

14. Question:  Why is graphite the preferred shaft in the metalwoods for most players

Answer:
The graphite shafts are lighter which allows the club head to be delivered to the ball at a faster speed than with a steel shaft. Graphite shafted metalwoods are also longer in length than steel shafted metalwoods providing a greater club head speed which also gives more distance. In theory, distance obtained changes as the velocity of the club head changes (assuming the mass remains constant). In other words, the faster the speed of the club head, the more distance the ball will travel (in theory). Therefore, a graphite shafted club (because it is lighter and longer in length) will generate more club head speed than a steel shafted model. More club head speed means more distance. Graphite also "recovers" quicker than steel which means the distortion of graphite shaft at the moment of impact is almost zero while the steel shaft is distorted somewhat and that distortion will have a small effect on accuracy. Lastly, graphite shafts are so good today; the normal torque that twists the club head at impact is almost negligent with quality graphite shafts.

15: Question:  What about being fitted? Should I get a fitting before I buy golf clubs?

Answer:
Many experienced (and serious) golfers know what their static and dynamic fitting specs are. IF you are not sure about your lie, the proper flex, the proper length, the correct shaft, etc., go to:

http://www.pinggolf.com/global_webfit.html . That is PING's fitting page where they, in simple language, help you to fit yourself.  It's worth downloading this site to get your proper STATIC and DYNAMIC fitting requirements. If you need help with fitting, we have attended PING'S fitting school; call us, we can translate, we have demo irons and we can fit you. CALL 1-800-727-5511.

PS: PING'S fitting suggestions apply to all other manufacturer's specs too. Incidentally, most Pro Shops (like Dimmock Hill) fit you at no cost. It does not take an hour or two to fit you. Call for an appointment or simply come to the shop. Any of our golf pros can fit you, and its FREE!

16. Question:  Why do most of the pros still use steel shafted irons instead of graphite if graphite shafts

                        get more distance?

Answer:
Most of the PGA Tour pros do not need distance, they seek accuracy. Many of the Senior golf pros and Ladies Touring pros DO use graphite shafted clubs in their irons. The PGA pros use graphite shafted drivers. Steel shafts for irons have one major advantage for golf professionals: because steel shafts are heavier than graphite shafts, the heavier shafts help the golf pro resist the errors that come from a 100-135 mph swing. A heavier shaft will help control a tendency to overswing too (and thereby minimize the errors that result in over swinging). Loss of distance for a golf pro using a steel shaft is not a problem. Average players do not have the very fast swing speeds of the touring golf pro, so the heavier steel shafts may actually be a handicap for average players.

17. Question:  Why are Left handed golf clubs, Ladies Golf Clubs and Senior shafted golf clubs

                        generally NOT available?

Answer:
Most companies want to market (and produce) what is in demand. The golf shops primarily stock up on men's right hand clubs. Left handed clubs, senior clubs and ladies clubs are down on the inventory priority list because they do not sell as fast as the men's right hand models. However, we can get those through the manufacturer usually within 7-10 days of your order.

18. Question:   Does Dimmock Hill sell golf bags?

Answer:
Yes and No. We sell popular golf bags from the biggest manufacturers when you can tell us the manufacturer's model number and you can generally describe the bag. Most of the time, we can't handle orders for golf bags because the customer wants (for example), a "Titleist Staff Bag" (which one? They make 4). And all of their staff bags are Black and White; which one?  It is basically a communication problem. This is the same problem your travel agent would have if you called him and said you needed "an airline ticket on Southwest Airlines".  If you know exactly what you want in a bag, we'll be happy to help you.

19. Question:  What is the difference between clubs made for better players (also known as "Blades"

or "Tour" models) and the clubs made for the average players ("also known as "peri-

meter weighted" clubs, or "Oversize clubs", or "game improvement clubs", etc)?

Answer:
Clubs made for the better players are usually designed with less offset, the heads are more compact, the top line of the head is thinner, there is more weight placed where the clubface hits the ball, there is less weight at the bottom of the head, the shafts feature a high flex point on the shaft (about 4-6 inches below the grip), the shafts are usually heavier than the shafts on average player's clubs, etc.

The club for the average player features more offset in the heads, the heads are larger, there is more weight distributed around the perimeter of the head, the clubs feature lighter shafts and the shaft flexes nearer the bottom of the shaft. etc. Ninety percent of all golf clubs sold are made for the average player.

Question:
Why are they designed this way?

Answer:

The better players have different abilities than the average player, and the manufacturers design the clubs to accommodate these different abilities. For example: better amateurs usually hit the ball very high,....to minimize this, the heads are designed with less offset, less weight at the bottom of the head, and with a higher flex in the shafts. The average golfer doesn't get the distance the pros and top amateurs get with his swing, or the high trajectory the better players get, so the manufacturer designs clubs for him with shafts that feature a lower flex point, and with lighter, more flexible shafts. The average golfer doesn't have the same confidence with his shot making ability, so the manufacturer puts more weight around the perimeter of the head, makes the heads larger and the top line larger so the average golfer feels that his clubs will get the ball to the target, not his muscles (muscling the ball is the same as over swinging), etc., etc.

20. Question:  Does a Titanium headed club hit the ball farther than a steel headed model?

Answer:
Titanium is harder than steel and 40% lighter so if two metal driver heads, one wholly steel, one titanium, weigh exactly the same, the titanium model would have to be 30-50% larger in size. This means the perimeter and the shell of the titanium model would be much larger than the steel model. When the perimeter is enlarged, the sweet spot of the face of the club head is expanded and the moment of inertia (MOI) also increases. Off center hits are more forgiving with titanium. Titanium heads allow the manufacturers to put heavier weights strategically INSIDE the clubhead to minimize slicing, hooking, etc. Also, because titanium is harder than steel, the FACE of a metalwood can be made thinner. Because the face of the titanium driver is very thin, there is a "trampoline" effect that results when a ball is hit by a thinner titanium metalwood face. This trampoline effect is maximized when the ball is hit "on the screws" (i.e., the ball comes off the face faster with little loss in energy). The USGA has maximized the rebound values (the trampoline effect) at 83%. Only titanium heads with graphite shafts (as of today) can reach those values. So, to answer the question, titanium does hit the ball farther and is more effective in making the miss-hit balls stay in play more often. Also, the larger the titanium head, the farther the ball can be hit, and the MORE forgiving the head is (on mis-hits).

21. Question:   Does Dimmock Hill Pro Shop stock all of the manufacturer's golf clubs?

Answer:
We sell basically what the American golfers want.  If the demand for a certain item is not there, we don't carry it. For example: there are approx. 30 major golf equipment manufacturers in the US and those 30 average about 10-12 putters in their line, or approximately 300 different putters. Which ones will we carry?  Certainly, at our discounted prices, we cannot carry 300 different putters, so we have to make a choice. We choose the most popular putters (such as Ping putters, Titleist, Taylor-Made, Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, etc…,which probably account for 75% of all the putters sold in the USA). We sell what we know to be the finest and most popular models made today. In a way, we are a barometer of what the public buys in this country (and what they don't buy). If we don't carry the line, you can be reasonably certain that the club or the item isn't one of the more popular ones.

22. Question:   How do I know if I need regular shaft flex or stiff flex in my clubs?

Answer:
If you can hit the ball (even once) greater than 250 yards during an 18 hole round (flat terrain, no wind, sea level), you probably need stiff shafts in the metal woods. You should also pick a stiff shaft for the irons too. If you rarely hit a tee shot more than 230 yards, you probably need an R flex. If your club head speed in your irons is relatively slow, or deliberately slow, you should probably choose a Regular flex. A general rule to follow: to get more distance, choose regular flex. To get more control, choose stiff flex. These are only general guidelines.

23. Question:   I need a set of irons that are 1/2 longer than standard with a 2 degree upright lie. What

company can make such a set in just a few days?

Answer:
That set would need to be custom made. All manufacturers of professional golf clubs in the USA can be customized by the factory. Typical custom order turnaround time is 2 weeks. Ping takes only 1 week (or less). Usually there is NO upcharge to custom make one club or a set of clubs.

24. Question:  Dimmock Hill is well known for accepting "trade-in" golf clubs towards current model

golf clubs. Are these trade-ins available to the general public?

Answer:
Yes. We accept previously owned top-of-the-line professional golf clubs in trade for current professional equipment. We sell them in our Golf Course pro shop, or give them to local schools, or we sell them overseas. With import duties in Europe and Asia as high as they are, used top-of-the-line golf clubs make great bargains for these customers outside of the United States. Inventory does not last long. Hurry on these. With professional golf clubs costing over $1000 today, it would be wise to trade your used clubs in for a set of the new Ping, Titleist, Taylor-Made, Mizuno, Callaway clubs, etc.,

25. Question:  I notice that my downtown Mall store will run advertisements on golf clubs/golf balls, &

they state their "sale" prices in big, bold print. My golf course Pro shop always has

lower prices BUT it never puts prices in their ads. Is there a reason my pro shop does

not state their prices in their ads?

Answer:
Golf shops, which advertise current model golf clubs, are not allowed by the manufacturers to print discounts greater than a small percentage off the suggested list prices (usually 5-10% off, never more than 20% off). Therefore, the pro shops and the major mail order houses cannot advertise prices (in print) when their prices are below the suggested retail price. If they did, the price would not be permitted by the manufacturer. Logically then, if you see prices on professional golf equipment in your local newspaper or in mail order catalogs, that is probably the NO-DISCOUNT price. Why? When the discounts exceed 10-20%, they are NOT permitted to be printed by the manufacturer. Your pro shop most likely can beat that magazine or newspaper printed price. That is an invitation to check OUR prices first when you see printed advertisements!

26. Question:  I lost a club in my set, a 7 iron. Can I buy a new one?

Answer:
If the club is less than 2 years old, we can usually can get a replacement. The older the lost club, the less likely it can be replaced by the manufacturer (except for Ping, they can replace almost anything in the Ping line). The rule is, if you lose a club, don't wait to replace it. Do it today! A second rule...get a set of shaft labels to stick on your clubs. If your clubs have labels on them, chances are good someone will return it to you if you leave it on the course.

27. Question:  Are the clubs today really better than my older set?  (I have a set built in 1999).

Answer:
The great technological advances in shaft design, shaft composition, head designs, weight distribution, space age metallurgy, etc., have taken place ONLY in the past 1-3 years. The clubs of today, like the golf balls (...don't forget the golf balls) are much better than any designs we saw before 2000.  If you play with your older set of clubs, just don't wager the house against a kid with a current model titanium headed, graphite shafted Ping, Mizuno, Taylor-Made, Cobra or Titleist driver, who is also teeing up a Pinnacle Gold, a Titleist ProV1 or Nike One golf ball.

A comparable question for you: Are the new home computers that cost around $1000 as good as your 1999 home computer?  Now ask the same question regarding your Callaway X-14 clubs of 2000 vs the new Callaway clubs of today.

28. Question:  I think I should be fitted for clubs. What actually is involved in a club fitting by a Pro?

Answer:
This is not rocket science. Club fitting is something most experienced golf pros can do in 15 minutes and be correct 99% of the time! Most average golfers do NOT need custom fitting (the retailers and "component" makers who assemble components to make clubs, will tell you otherwise but that's the business they are in!). Most "stock" clubs will fit the average golfer in the US. BUT, for those golfers who are exceptionally tall, exceptionally short, have a physical problem ("bad back", arthritis, tendonitis, a bad hip, etc.), unusually large (or small hands), or if their slice or hook is a function of the clubs, then a custom made set of clubs may be necessary. We can fit you. We are graduates of the PING fitting school in Phoenix, we have the PING fitting cart here, over 60 PING demo irons to fit you and we've been doing it for 45 years. And we do it without charge!

These factors are taken into consideration when we fit you: 1. your experience playing golf (average scores, average distance off the tee, how often you play or practice, where your "bad shots" go, your motivation, what clubs you are presently playing with. Sometimes it is the clubs!, etc. 2. Your physical size (we measure). 3. Your swing patterns (it is not necessary to go out on the course with you, you simply can tell us about your strengths and weaknesses, how and where your shots go, etc. 4. Your budget (sometimes custom-made clubs may cost a few pennies more than the stock clubs; but most of the time there is no extra charge. PING, MIZUNO, TITLEIST, COBRA, TAYLOR-MADE, CALLAWAY, for example, will make a complete set of top quality custom-made clubs that fits you perfectly at no extra cost to you). 5. Where you play most of your golf.  Do you play most of your golf on a championship course?  A 7500 yard monster? An Executive Course?)….once a month?, every other day?, and do you practice? We have been fitting people for over 40 years. We can fit you too!
